The only way to know how thing are changing is to monitor them at regular intervals. When it comes to climate change, regular measurements are essential. As the Earth’s polar caps respond to changing global climate conditions, experts rely on satellite measurements to make accurate, regular measurements. But satellites don’t last forever, and while the world waits for a new vehicle to get into space, NASA has a team in the field to gather vital data and fill in the gaps. It’s called Operation Ic

Operation #IceBridge Alaska has had a crucial view of Alaska’s glaciers for the last 11 years. The region is warming more than twice as fast as the rest of the world. As the glaciers melt, they contribute to rising seas. Our latest #EarthExpeditions blog: https://go.nasa.gov/3iOrDtF | NASA Earth

In late October, Antarctica's Pine Island Glacier calved a massive iceberg, known as Iceberg B-46, into the Amundsen Sea. Pine Island has lost several large icebergs in the last few years -- it's one of the most rapidly melting glaciers in the Antarctic and a significant contributor to sea level rise. NASA ICE's Operation IceBridge flew over Pine Island Glacier on Nov. 7, capturing images and collecting data over the newly formed iceberg and remaining glacier. https://go.nasa.gov/2DaKSuP | NASA

Space | Science | Astronomy | Technology on Instagram: "In October 2018, NASA’s Operation IceBridge observed a perfectly rectangular iceberg near the Larsen C ice shelf on the northern Antarctic Peninsula. The iceberg’s sharp angles and flat surfaces suggested it had recently calved from the shelf. Tabular icebergs like this form when large ice chunks break off, similar to how a fingernail grows too long and breaks."

Wealth on Instagram: "In October 2018, NASA’s Operation IceBridge, an extensive aerial survey of polar ice, documented an extraordinary sight over the northern Antarctic Peninsula. The team encountered a perfectly rectangular iceberg near the Larsen C ice shelf. This geometric mystery, characterized by its sharp angles and flat surfaces, was freshly calved from the ice shelf, hinting at the recent and precise natural processes involved in its formation. Tabular icebergs like this one form when l
